LIVING VOICES WORKSHOPS

Living Voices' educational theatre workshops offer audiences the opportunity for hands-on interaction with the teaching/performing artist, which expands upon the post-show discussion session.  Geared for groups of no more than thirty participants, these workshops provide a more personal and intimate experience of the material in the show.

In the one-hour follow-up workshop, participants are encouraged to examine their reactions to and express their ideas about the show they have seen through a series of interactive drama exercises, such as Sculpting. This process explores issues of prejudice and social justice in both a historical and present-day context, using the Living Voices performance as a jumping point to relate history to current events and to participants' own lives and communities. Participants have the chance to respond to the piece in an experiential way, physically as well as verbally.

Longer workshops and residencies may also incorporate role play and scene work, elements of the Committee for Children's Steps to Respect bullying prevention program, Michael Rohd's Theatre for Community, Conflict and Dialogue, Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed, historical research, and student performances. These customized programs are developed in partnership with and for a specific group, school or organization.

Workshops and residencies are available in conjunction with any Living Voices performance. All of Living Voices' educational theatre programs are appropriate for participants in 4th grade through university, with durations of one hour and up.
